Captain Elmo, as he is mostly known, wrote three novels and two coffee-table books called “Yana Maga” and “A Century Sky”. “Sam’s Story” won him the Gratiaen Prize. For “The Last Kingdom of Sinhalay”, he received the State Literary Award. His third novel “Rainbows in Braille” was short-listed for the Singapore Literary Prize. He has been a journalist for a long time writing on various subjects.
His next book “Kakiyan, the Story of a Crow” is complete and awaits publication.
Captain Elmo flew for Air Ceylon, Air Lanka and 20 years in Singapore Airlines where he was an instructor on Boeing 747s. He has been a flying fly at Ratmalana on Tiger Moths. He currently works for Boeing Company as a contract-instructor in their Singapore Campus and trains pilots for other companies too.
Apart from flying and writing books, Captain Elmo is the Founder/President of CandleAid Lanka (www.candleaid.org) , a government-approved humanitarian organization working to help people in need.
Captain Elmo is a keen sportsman, plays tennis and basketball and runs regularly and canoes long distances. Still find time to sit at Bridge tables.
He lives with his wife Dil, whom he calls “The Captain’s Captain” at Moratuwa, in what they call “Waypoint 9”, their riverside home.
