Capt. Elmo, as he is mostly known, was born in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and was educated at St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa. He then went on to become a pilot, journey that spanned 40 over years of flying jet planes across all continents of the world. His foray into ‘ authorship ‘ began at this time as a self – taught author and a journalist.

Elmo’s books have won him the ” Gratiaen Prize ” (Sam’s Story), the State Literary Award  The Last Kingdom of Sinhalay), and the prestigious ” Sahityaratana Award ” in Sri Lanka. One of his books (Rainbows in Braille) was short – listed for the Singapore Literary Prize. He has also written two coffee table books, ” Yana Maga ” and ” A Centenary Sky ” that are beautifully crafted: One on life in Sri Lanka and the other on aviation that coloured the Sri Lankan skies.

Despite the fate of a 40 year flying career that included 20 years with Singapore Airlines, and many years of training pilots in Boeing training schools, winning awards for his inimitable style of writing, he categorically admits his greatest achievement is the founding of  ”  CandleAid Lanka ” a humanitarian organization and an  ” Approved Charity ” in Sri Lanka – www.candleaid.org.

He how resides at his riverside home, ” Waypoint 9 ” (the last waypoint), with his wife, Dil, and travels to Australia and England often to spend fulfilling time with his two children, their spouses and the four grandchilren, that being the biggest joy in his life.
