A good “ Jaffna boy ’’ is studious and hardworking. He excels at university, and quickly goes to work in a successful career. But Bernard Sinniah has never been one for studying. In fact, he has an uncanny ability to fall asleep after two or three pages of reading.
So ,as his train pulls away from St. John’s College, Bernard knows he is leaving as a failed Jaffna boy, with the grades to show it. Still, he faces mixed emotions as he remembers the childhood years he has spent there-all the fun, friends, and memorable experiences he’s leaving behind.
Jaffna Boy is the engaging true story of a young boy’s life at a Sri Lankan boarding school in the 1970s, as recalled during one fateful train ride-and the advice from an unexpected source that would change the course of his life forever.
