Christine Wilson comes from Sri Lanka, She was educated at Bishop’s College, Colombo, and at Roedean, England, with Art and English her major subjects.

She had no ordinary childhood. Both parents were doctors, her father, R.L. Spittel, C.M.G., a distinguished surgeon, became internationally known for his rediscovery of Sri Lanka’s aborigines, the veddas, and was the author of a number of books about them. Inevitably Christine grew up in an atmosphere of books. Writing and adventure. Taken on a number of her father’s arduous journeys she learned the thrill of discovery, a love of wildlife, and travel, but was constantly reminded as soon as she could write, to “Put it down on paper.”

After her marriage to her Scottish Engineer husband. Alistair Wilson, she studied Creative Writing in Glasgow. and permitted to take the two-year course in one year, won a First and a Second Award. Returning to Sri Lanka with her husband she wrote her first book. “The Bitter Berry”, followed by others, among them. “Surgeon of the Wilderness”, the biography of her father. Between these she wrote regularly for the Press, focusing mainly on wildlife and travel.

Her present novel is set in the remote highlands of Sri Lanka, where she once lived briefly. The title, “I am the Wings,” was suggested by her father, and was immediately selected as “right.” For there was an indefinable mysticism about that terrain and the indubitable effect it had on the people who lived there.

After twenty-one years in East Africa, where her husband worked for the World Bank. They have returned to Colombo.
