Jayalath Pathiranage Krishan Pushpa Kumara is an Officer serving in the Sri Lanka Navy for 24 years, having enlisted as an Officer Cadet of the 15th Intake of Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) on 05th October 1997. He got his primary and secondary education at the karandeniya Central Collage and Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda respectively. He secured a second class upper division (Hons) in Bachelors (Defence) degree in Management and Technical sciences at KDU. He is also a recipient of the President’s trophy being the first in order of merit, securing merit for Masters in Management (Defence Studies) of the 10th MSc in Management programme at KDU.
Commander JPKP Kumara is specialized in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) from Indian Navy, later appointed as the Officer In Charge of the ASW school at Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. He obtained a ‘pass staff navy’ qualification from Pakistan Navy War College, where he earned his second Master’s degree from the prestigious National Defence University, Islamabad.
He also holds a Diploma in International Relations from the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies. Furthermore, he has completed the Diploma course in Creative Diplomacy at Regional Centre for Strategic Studies. Recently he earned his third Master’s degree in Labour Relations and Human Resource Management with merit from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo.
