Preface
Tales of our forefathers – make leading lights to posterity
Hero-stone at Anuradhapura and Other Essays, is a collection of eleven of my articles published at different occasions and hitherto unpublished Mäțiyagane Sanansa along with its translation. I had attempted to present of all of these subjects from a novel perspective. Certain subjects discussed hitherto I believe had not been dealt with anywhere, so far. Therefore I believe that this treatise would be of service to gain a novel interpretation on the subjects, dealt with. The articles on Padalasa Cetiya at Thuparama and on Abhayagiri were results of discoveries during my term of office as the Director of Abhayagiri and Mahavihara projects.
I wholeheartedly thank Dr.Hector Alahakoon for encouraging me to publish my collection of articles, and also for editing the work. I hereby forward my gratitude to Most Venerable Kirama Vimalajoti Thero the head of the Buddhist Cultural Centre for undertaking to publish this treatise without any kind of hesitation. Further Venerable Middeniye Dhammika Thero and the staff at the Buddhist Cultural Centre also deserve my kind gratitude
It was my dear wife Menike who created a free and suitable environment for me to write these articles. I have to mention with affection names of my son Ranjana and Nishani who were eager to see how this book was taking shape and also little Vinuk and Tineli who always hung around me being inquisitive of what I was writing about.
